Black Musical Expression & Memory: A Juneteenth Celebration

3:00 PM  –  4:30 PM

Location: Graham Auditorium

Registration required.

Join us in celebration of Juneteenth and Black Music Month for a powerful program of remembrance, reverence, and connection.

Hosted by singer, vocalist, and all around creative force Black Assets, this immersive sonic experience features live musical contributions from Jabari Exum, a multidisciplinary performance artist, drummer, and movement coach for the Marvel Studios’ Black Panther, and Amadou Kouyate, an internationally acclaimed kora and percussion virtuoso. Together, they’ll create a layered embodiment of Black musical expression.

Following the program, guests are invited to gather in the Museum Cafe for continued connection with specialty drinks available for purchase.

Douriean Fletcher: Jewelry of the Afrofuture is dedicated to jewelry artist Douriean Fletcher, whose work has shaped the cinematic worlds of Marvel Studios’ Black Panther films and Coming 2 America. The exhibition explores the self-taught metalsmith’s jewelry as a powerful narrative tool in art, Black identity, and visual storytelling and spotlights works from the Walters collection that inspired the artist. The exhibition is on view from April 18 to August 9 in our Temporary Exhibition Gallery on Level 1.
