The Walters Art Museum is home to an outstanding collection of the work of Antoine-Louis Barye (1795–1875), a French artist who specialized in sculpting animals. In addition to Barye’s patronage by French royalty, William T. Walters eagerly sought out the artist’s bronzes. In 1885, Walters gifted several sculptures to the city of Baltimore to adorn Mount Vernon Place. This talk, led by Jo Briggs, Jennie Walters Delano Curator of 18th- & 19th-Century Art, highlights the enduring connections Walters’s patronage forged between public spaces in Paris and Baltimore.
