Location: Special Exhibition gallery,
Selections from the 19th-Century European and North American Collection
Registration required. Limited capacity.

For the second program in our Queering the Collection series, James Smalls, Professor and Chair of Visual Arts at University of Maryland Baltimore County shares the benefits and pitfalls associated with queering visual art of the 19th century, taking into consideration race, gender, exoticism, classicism, and ideas about nationhood. Join us for a conversational program as we travel from artwork to artwork in our 19th-century gallery.

Queering the Collection is an in-gallery program series that invites queer-identifying perspectives to participate in a conversation that connects art-historical and artistic knowledge about works in our collection. Speakers discuss works of art in our galleries followed by a Q&A session with the audience.
